'An Angel in my Arms'

I was so excited to receive the newest issue of Above Rubies in the mail today! What a special publication...always encouraging. They run a special with each issue and this issue is offering Serene and Pearl's An Angel in my Arms for just $8. (reg. $15) It's worth every bit, and then some, of it's full price, so take advantage of this deal while you can. Everyone in our crew just loves this album...my boys think it's so neat that Meadow, Pearl's daughter, is on the album and actually wrote one of the songs when her baby sister was tiny.

Movie Review

The Business of Being Born ... I finally got to sit down and watch it.

Well, it had a few cuss words in it, which always stands out to me. I try to avoid movies with bad language b/c input/output you know! ;-) But other than that, it was very interesting and overall, I enjoyed it. I do not recommend this movie for the guys b/c there are a lot of birth scenes, and if most guys are anything like my guy, they won't be interested in seeing all that.

Some things that stood out to me are the fact that we, in America, have one of the highest (if not the highest) maternal and infant mortality rate in industrialized countries. That all other industrialized countries have a much, much higher percentage of midwives attending births, and yet their mortality rates are lower. How is that possible?!! Here in America, the OB's would have us believe that we're being dangerous, reckless and downright criminal if we have a midwife attend a birth, especially home births. I wish I had taken notes to recall the actual #'s, but it's been a couple of weeks, and the #'s escape me.

I have had 1 hospital birth, and 3 home water births in 3 different cities, therefore 3 different midwives. They've all been professional, personable, INCREDIBLY knowledgeable and skilled. This is a subject that fascinates me, so I would say to anyone who can tolerate a few cuss words and seeing several births - if this subject interests you at all, I think you'd enjoy it.

Again, if you have a netflix subscription, you can watch it instantly on your computer or just have it sent to you.

A Ministry of YWAM Houston, Little Footprints reaches out to the "little ones of the street" in the Montrose community of Houston, TX. Take a few minutes to watch their video...I dare you not to be moved...to prayer, to action.

The Business of Being Born

Wow! I had heard mention of this a while back when Ricki Lake was catching flack for doing this film. I just found the link to the trailer on a friends blog. It looks really good! It's out on DVD now... and if you're a Netflix member, it's even available for "Watch Instantly" viewing. It's in my que to watch tonight. I'll let you know my thoughts tomorrow.

http://www.thebusinessofbeingborn.com/ has a trailer, etc. Check it out!
